Shilpa Khirbat — a medical writer
About the author
Hi, I’m Shilpa Khirbat — a medical writer with a biology teacher’s heart, translating complex science into words that actually make sense.

My story

I started in a classroom. I ended up in a lab coat.

Before I ever wrote a word about medicine, I spent years standing in front of a classroom full of students trying to understand how the human body works. I was a biology teacher — and honestly, that is where I learned the most important skill I still use today: how to explain complicated things to people who have every reason to switch off.

That experience never left me. When I transitioned into medical writing — armed with a B.Sc in Biotechnology and an M.Sc in Human Genetics — I brought that same instinct with me. Not “how do I explain this accurately?” but “how do I explain this so it actually lands?”
“Most health content is either too clinical to understand or too vague to trust. I built this blog to sit in the space between.”

Why this blog

Ten years of medical writing taught me one thing.

Over a decade of working as a medical writer, I have reviewed clinical trial data, translated research papers, and written for healthcare professionals who needed precision above everything else. I loved that work. But something was always missing.
The people who needed this information most — everyday people trying to understand their own bodies, their own stress, their own mental health — were not getting it. Not in a way that felt real or useful. They were getting either dense academic language or oversimplified wellness fluff. Neither is good enough.
This blog is my answer to that gap.

My focus

Mental health. The mind-body connection. The science behind both.

I write about the intersection of mental and physical health — an area that mainstream medicine is only now beginning to take seriously, and one that the wellness industry has been getting spectacularly wrong for years.
Everything I write is grounded in peer-reviewed research. I cite my sources, I flag when science is still evolving, and I always tell you when something is worth discussing with your own doctor. Credibility is not a feature here — it is the whole point.
